Tahiti Village mermaid CaySea gives her summer swan song this Saturday

Mermaids, like bumblebees, box turtles and badgers, are summer creatures. They thrive in heat, then hightail it home come fall. So it is with CaySea, the wondrous Tahiti Village mermaid. Our favorite blonde hybrid with the colorful speckled fin will make her final appearance of the season this Saturday, Sept. 29, from 2-3 p.m. in the main pool.

“We’re really sorry to see her go,” said Chris Breed, Tahiti Village general manager, to which David Campbell, our aquatics director, replied: “All mermaids must migrate for the winter.”

Based on her late May arrival this year, Mermaid CaySea is expected back the same time in 2019. Be sure to book a summer visit and experience, as CaySea would say, “a fintastic fun time.”

It’ll be fun, fun, fun this Labor Day weekend at Tahiti Village!

The last long weekend of summer comes to a close at Tahiti Village with an abundance of enjoyable poolside activities and a special luau to benefit Three Square foodbank of Southern Nevada.

The fun starts at 1 p.m. Saturday at our tropical beach pool with a DJ playing tunes till 5 p.m. and Mermaid CaySea entertaining our younger guests from 1-2 p.m. CaySea will also lend her face painting talents from 2-5 p.m. At 6 p.m. singer-guitarist Nick Mattera from our weekly Acoustics & Ale show takes over for a full two hours of unplugged bliss.

On Sunday both the DJ and Nick Mattera return for another round of poolside entertainment. There will also be games, prizes and more on both days as well as Sno-Cones from 3-5 p.m. in our Manihi Isle, the long stretch of green between the pool and the lazy river.

On Sunday night our Bacardi-sponsored summer luau concludes for the year with a Facebook event to benefit Three Square food bank of Southern Nevada. For every person on social media who shares the live-stream event from our Facebook page, we will donate one meal to Three Square up to 10,000 meals to help feed hungry children in the Las Vegas area. As always, the show begins at 7 p.m. and features wonderful entertainment and delicious cuisine.

Las Vegas radio station 104.3NowFM and DJ Supa James will be broadcasting remotely from our luau location, the beautiful Island Courtyard. Be sure to share our Facebook event to benefit Three Square and the hungry children of Southern Nevada.

This weekend we are also unveiling our new signature Tahiti Village drink, the Bacardi Dragon Berry Limónade. It will be available at the main pool bar and 17 South Booze & Bites starting Saturday. The Bacardi girls will also be pouring samples of this delicious new drink at the luau – yet another good reason to attend!

Mermaid CaySea is making a big splash in our tropical beach pool all summer long!

Mermaid CaySea, the wondrous result of an unlikely coupling, has found a new home here at Tahiti Village. Her arrival, like her spectacular speckled fin, is a source of great mystery. On Monday, May 28, the blonde hybrid turned up on a cart outside the gate of our tropical beach pool and asked to be wheeled into the water. Although her origins were unknown and her motives unclear, her charm and beauty cast a mesmerizing spell on our pool staff – and they had no choice but to carry out her wishes.

Once inside the pool, CaySea cut through the water like a born descendent of Poseidon, her taut tail smacking the water like a pastel paddle, and she made a beeline for a group of children frolicking in the shallows near the sandy beach bottom entry. Like our pool staff, they immediately clustered around her and were instantly captivated by this most unusual creature. CaySea read them “tales” from her mermaid book and engaged in playful games with colorful plastic eggs.

An hour passed by like a minute, and just as quickly as she had arrived, CaySea announced it was time for her to go. “Noooooo,” cried the kids in unison. She explained that her unique physiology allowed her to stay in chlorinated pool water for just 60 minutes a week, but that she’d be back the same time the following Monday and every Monday thereafter throughout the summer.

You can “catch” her from 2-3 p.m. To quote Mermaid CaySea herself, it’s a “fin-tastic” fun time for all!

Join us poolside starting tonight and every Thursday throughout the summer for Acoustics & Ale!

With the first triple digit temperatures of the year arriving this week with the fury of a vengeful blowtorch, sending guests scurrying to the tropical beach pool and lazy river for instant cooling relief, it’s safe to say the summer season is upon us at Tahiti Village even if it’s still officially spring. The onset of May also augurs the return of our famous Summer Sunday Luau – just weeks away from its traditional Memorial Day weekend start – and now, as a sunny supplement to that popular event, we’re presenting Acoustics & Ale poolside every Thursday at 6 p.m. throughout the summer.

You can quench your parched palate with a selection of enticing beers from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company while you kick back and listen to a revolving roster of talented musical artists from Nick Mattera Productions. Yes, that Nick Mattera, the popular acoustic guitarist who performs at our weekly Owners Night inside 17˚ South Booze & Bites.

If you haven’t tried a Sierra Nevada beer yet, be sure to grab an original Pale Ale, a Hazy Little Thing IPA or a Tropical Torpedo IPA from the Sandbox Bar. You’ll understand why one of the first craft brewers in the nation is still going stronger than ever as you relax poolside listening to great acoustic sounds. We’re also giving away Sierra Nevada swag, including T-shirts and bottle openers.

We hope to see you at Acoustics and Ale!

No fooling: Annual Easter egg hunt set for this Sunday, April 1st!

Easter Sunday is shaping up to be a hopping good time for the entire family at Tahiti Village, starting with our annual Easter egg hunt on April 1. Young collectors and their parents should meet at 9 a.m. inside the Island Courtyard to receive their egg bags and prepare for the hunt, which will go off at approximately 9:15 a.m. for the first age group (up to five years old), 10 minutes later for the second age group (6-12), and 10 minutes after that for the third age group (13 and over).

Once the first group of intrepid hunters collects their eggs, deftly hidden throughout the lazy river, they will return to the Island Courtyard for games, crafts and live music. They will soon be joined there by the second and third groups sporting their own candy-filled eggs. Fortune will smile on a few lucky hunters in the form of special Golden Eggs, which will contain a voucher the holder can exchange for a special prize.

Here’s wishing everyone a very Happy Easter!

No Ocean, No Problem: Why a Beach Resort is the Way to Vacation in Vegas

Las Vegas may be located in landlocked Nevada, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a beach – Las Vegas beach resorts, that is! While there’s not technically an ocean in the middle of our desert city, that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the benefits of one. At Tahiti Village Resort & Spa, we channel our inner islanders to bring you a beach vacation, right here in Las Vegas.

Visit an Island Paradise

Our island-inspired oasis is just 10 minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip, but feels worlds away. Locals love Vegas for its sunshine, so heading to the “beach” is the perfect escape. Our amenities will help you stay cool, relaxed, and pampered along with activities for the whole family to enjoy! Our Tahitian-themed pool area is unlike any other and offers a piece of paradise for everyone.

So what makes Tahiti’s pool so different? First off, in addition to our highly-acclaimed pool, we also have an amazing lazy river where guests can float around in relaxation. Our over 1-acre pool area is complemented by a sandy beach and alluring waterfalls, which will transport you right to the islands of Tahiti (without even leaving the hotel!). We have pool activities, including luaus, pool volleyball, concerts, and more. Whether you want to kick back and float down the lazy river or get your water sport on, there’s fun here for everyone.

An Inclusive Resort

If you’re channeling your inner beach bum and don’t want to venture far from the hotel, Tahiti Village Resort & Spa has everything you need. Overlooking the pool is 17° South Booze & Bites, the perfect place to grab a quick bite during your day at the pool (or treat yourself to a full entree with family and friends!). We have everything from house made nachos and perfectly cooked chicken wings to slow cooked ribs and Atlantic salmon.

In addition to food, we also have our luxurious Mahana Spa, a first-class fitness center, convenient resort services, and much more for guests to enjoy!

Plan Your Las Vegas Beach Vacation

It’s ironic that while Las Vegas isn’t known for beaches, you can plan the perfect resort getaway at one of the city’s many pools and beach clubs! In addition to Tahiti Village, here are a few of the coolest picks to escape the heat:

-Hard Rock Hotel Beach Club – Not only does Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas have an amazing pool, but they are also home to Rehab, one of the city’s best pool party venues. Guests can experience the whole beach vibe with real sand and beach-like designs! And, take the party up a notch by renting a private cabana for you and your squad.

-Mandalay Bay Beach – Mandalay Bay Beach is over 11 acres and has a wave machine in their pool to stimulate the crashing waves of the ocean. There are over 100 cabanas, day beds, and beach bungalows available for reservation. Plus, get your game on at the beach casino!

-TAO Beach – Like Tahiti Village, this pseudo-beach is inspired by tropical paradise, but TAO channels Bali and its beautiful beaches! The lush landscape and live DJs create the perfect atmosphere for a beach party this side of the Pacific.

So you’ve got the venue and the accommodations, what else should you plan for? When heading to Vegas in the spring and summer months for your beach getaway, take the following into consideration:

1.Vegas gets hot in the summer, so make sure to stay hydrated (especially if you’re drinking!). To avoid dehydration, drink at least one glass of water for every alcoholic drink.

2.Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! The Vegas sun is powerful and there’s no party pooper quite like a bad sunburn. Remember to reapply every 2 hours, or even more often if you’re in the water. You should also consider bringing a waterproof sunscreen for an extra step of protection.

3.If you’re planning on booking a private beach cabana, you’ll have your shade taken care of, but otherwise pack something that can protect you from the sun after a long day out. This could be a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, or even an umbrella. At the major pool parties, shade is limited. But at Tahiti Village, you have a better chance of snagging a shaded poolside spot!

Las Vegas is so beautiful in the summer, and it’s even more refreshing if you plan a beach getaway in this desert city. Whether you’re visiting for the weekend or live here full time, a little sunshine and tropical vibes never hurt anyone!

Woman tipping her hat to an extra hour of sunshine.

How to Spend Your Extra Hour of Evening Sun in Vegas

We probably can’t complain about lack of sunshine in Las Vegas, but even so, springing our clocks forward on March 11th and getting an extra hour of daylight is something to be celebrated. How are you going to spend your extra hour of evening? In a city jam-packed with activities and entertainment, the Las Vegas outdoor attractions are endless.

Here are some of the best ways to spend your extra evening hour in Vegas:

Dine and Drink Outdoors

Enjoy the extra hour of sunshine by indulging in food and a couple drinks al fresco. There’s nothing like feeling the sunshine on your skin while you enjoy some delicious snacks and libations. The gorgeous Vegas afternoons, now elongated by the time change, present the perfect setting to sit back and enjoy a meal with loved ones. One of the best al fresco patios in Vegas is 17° South Booze & Bites at Tahiti Village. Decadent starters like Calamari and Spinach Cheese Dip lead the way into an indulgent outdoor meal in Las Vegas. Favorite entrees include Steak Frites, Atlantic Salmon Filet, and Slow Cooked Ribs. Wash that down with a signature cocktail like the Chocotini or the Manhattan and you’re sure to kick Spring off with a bang!

Explore the Grand Canyon

One of the best perks of visiting or living in Las Vegas is the close proximity of the Grand Canyon and a longer day means more opportunity to appreciate its beauty! Take advantage of the convenient location and go explore! Whether you like to sit back and take in the views or partake in some canyon adventuring, there is a Grand Canyon activity for you. Boating, hiking, observing, walking, rock climbing, and even riding in a helicopter are all options. If you’re interested in having someone guide you through, visit Grand Canyon Tour Company. Knowledgeable experts with extensive Grand Canyon experience will lead the way as you take in the magnificence of this world-famous attraction.

Watch the Sunset from Above

Vegas sunsets are beautiful and the longer days give you more time to make an activity of watching them. Want to go on a hike or walk after work to get the perfect view? Go ahead. Always wanted to catch a ride on the High Roller in time to see those gorgeous colors? Now you can! Daylight saving gives you the opportunity to experience the desert sunsets as they’re meant to be experienced. To catch the sun setting on the city from above, head over to the High Roller observation wheel. Each ride takes about 30 minutes, so if you time your boarding right you’ll catch the sunset at the very top.

Peruse Outdoor Markets

Forgo the grocery store and pick up your market necessities at one of Vegas’ farmers markets. Many people choose to shop at farmers markets instead of conventional grocery stores because the produce is extra fresh and it’s an outing in itself. You’ll find ready-to-eat meals, groceries, services, and goods. Bring your family and friends and say goodbye to stuffy, corporate grocery stores. Favorite Vegas farmers markets include the Downtown 3rd Farmers Market, Fresh52 Farmers and Artisan Market, and the Downtown Summerlin Farmers Market.

Walk and Hike

Though most think of Vegas as a flat desert, there are plenty of walking and hiking opportunities in and around this desert city. Take advantage of the extra hours of sunlight by getting outside and being active. You’ll notice both physical and mental benefits, including a boosted mood, stronger body, and less stress. If you’re more the walking type, check out the parks and botanical gardens at Springs Preserve. If hiking’s more your thing, check out the trails at Mount Charleston!

Lounge by the Pool

Of course, no Vegas afternoon would be complete without lounging by the pool. Daylight saving time gives you an extra hour to sit back and enjoy one of the best Las Vegas outdoor activities. A favorite pool for both locals and visitors is the Las Vegas Pool and Lazy River Complex at Tahiti Village. Spend your extra hour of sunshine moseying along the lazy river or sipping on a cocktail in a lounge chair. The options are endless when it comes to having a good time at the pool.

There are plenty of activities in Vegas that make an extra hour of sunshine worthy of excitement. As March 11th approaches, think about what you’d like to get out of the extra time in the day. There’s sure to be a Vegas offering that’s just waiting to exceed your expectations!

Lazy River Games

Enjoying a relaxing day by the pool at Tahiti Village is sublime. Keeping the kids entertained in the pool while you unwind is priceless.

You’ve made the wise choice to book a suite at Tahiti Village – the only Tahitian-themed resort featuring spacious suites, incredible islands-themed pools and a lazy river, and sumptuous dining options in Las Vegas. And nothing quite feels like an islands-themed vacation than spending time sitting by the pool, sipping on your favorite drink (Bahama Mama, anyone?) while the kids spend time splashing about. Let’s jump in and conduct a little “pool game brainstorming” to help keep the kids entertained all day while you relax in the shade.

  1. Marco Polo: Yes, you played this one when you were a kid; so, why not reintroduce it to the digital crowd? Your kids will love the classic “cat-and-mouse” scenario. Plus, it makes for serious social interaction that can help them create new friends at the pool.
  1. Not-So-Lazy-River: The name “Lazy River” implies an idyllic, almost passive trip around the resort on an inner tube – and that’s exactly what it should be. But, you can introduce a little friendly competition and healthy movement by having your kids compete to see who can navigate their way around the Lazy Loop the quickest.
  1. Water Volleyball: Kids of all ages love to compete, and what better way to have fun in the sun than with a game of water volleyball? Grab a ball, gather some friends, and then serve, set, spike, block, and dig your way to victory in the pool.
  1. Sharks and Minnows: The name pretty much says it all, but Sharks and Minnows is essentially a splash-inducing game of “tag” in the pool. The shark starts at one side of the pool and the minnows at the other. Once the game is on, the minnows try to swim to the shark’s side of the pool without getting tagged. Each minnow that is tagged becomes a shark, until there is just one minnow left. The victorious minnow becomes the shark in the next round.
  1. Handstand Olympics: Ok, it’s not exactly the Olympics, but a handstand competition in the pool can make even the least athletic among us feel like a world-class gymnast. Have one person act as an impartial judge. Then, ask three or more kids to complete their best handstand – with extra points added for originality, best pose, or longest time spent upright. Add categories like “best one-handed handstand” or “longest time until a tip-over” to spice it up.
  1. Treasure Hunt: Bring along some fun pool toys that’ll sink, and then have one kid act as the “pirate” – stashing his or her treasure about the pool. Teams of kids can work together to see who can recover the pirate’s booty the quickest. Points are added for high-value prizes like fake gold coins or other treasure.

This summer, take a trip to Tahiti Village in Las Vegas and unwind for a few days. Once you’ve kicked off your shoes and parked your stresses at the front door, sit by the poolside and enjoy a quick bite, a cool drink, and the feel of the sun on your face.

Then, unleash the kids on the swimming pools and lazy river and allow them to create their own unique games. What is your child’s favorite pool game? Afterwards, enjoy islands-themed food at one of the on-site eateries, or spend time at the world-class spa located right in the heart of the resort. No matter how you define relaxation, you’ll find it at Tahiti Village, your oasis from the outside world.

Know how you can tell things are heating up in Vegas? We’ve opened our poolside tiki bars for the summer!

With Las Vegas temperatures creeping into the 70s this week and visitors beginning to flock to our aquatic attractions like competitive eaters to an endless buffet, we thought, `Ah, what the heck. Let’s open the poolside tiki bars for the summer. In March!’

So that’s what we’ve done, opened the Sand Box in the main pool area and the bar inside the lazy river, appropriately called the Lazy River Bar. As usual, they contain a tempting selection of beer, wine, and tropical drink type thingies for you to enjoy while you’re relaxing in the sunshine and contemplating your next move.

And speaking of your next move – will it be a relaxing trip down the Lazy River? A soothing soak in the adult hot tub? Or what about another cold one as you soak in the rays and enjoy the lush scenery around our tropical beach pool? You have a lot of choices at Tahiti Village, and we invite you to try them all as get ready for another wonderful summer season!

We hope to see you here!
