COVID-19

COVID-19: Tahiti Village Update

covidThe COVID-19 pandemic has certainly changed everyone’s lives. That doesn’t stop us from doing everything we can to give our guests and owners the best experience and vacation possible. At Tahiti Village Resort, we care deeply about the well-being and safety of our owners and guests and wanted to provide you with an update on the steps we are taking at the resort to ensure your safety!

Just recently, the Governor stated that in order for Nevada to stay safe and remain open during COVID-19 it is mandated to wear face coverings in all public areas. This Declaration of Emergency Directive was announced on June 26, 2020.

With that, all guests must wear face coverings while indoors, while walking around the property outdoors and while at the pool and lazy river areas. This is for not only your safety but for everyone at the resort. If you have further questions about the new directive, please click here.

Nevada entered Phase Two of reopening on May 29, since then there have been many positive changes in regards to what we can have open on property. After careful consideration of the Phase 2 plan and guidance from the CDC and state directives, we were able to make these further changes–

  • Our pool, lazy river and hot tubs will be open but operating at 50% capacity. Pool admittance will be on a “first come, first served” basis. Wristbands are required to access pool, hot tubs and lazy river.
  • Our gym will officially be opening for use.
  • Wristbands are required to access our pool, lazy river and hot tubs for all registered guests except for children less than 5 years of age. Visit Concierge for these!
  • BBQ area will be open for use.

We are accepting reservations at the resort for guests and owners to come and stay with us. We have taken these additional precautions –

  • The Front Desk and Concierge areas will be fitted with plexiglass acrylic screens. Social distance markers are on the floor for everyone’s reference.
  • Keys, lobby access doors, stairway banisters, elevator buttons, desks, door handles, and all other high contact areas will be disinfected regularly by our staff.
  • In your room, we will be placing “Cleaned and Sanitized” stickers in all high contact areas to let you know we got it.
  • Room assignments will be done so in a way that will allow for better social distancing.
  • Enhanced cleaning of the gym.
  • All employees will be participating in ongoing training to ensure health and safety measures are upheld.

covidWhile you are at the resort we recommend you only ride the elevator with people in your party. Please continue to practice social distancing between each other and in all public areas on our property. Such as our walkways, hallways, lobby areas, etc.

We intend to operate as set forth for as long as possible; however, please realize that these are dynamic and rapidly-evolving circumstances that require day-to-day decision making with COVID-19.

If you need to adjust retail reservations, please contact our Reservation Team at 1-855-386-4658. Adjusting a retail reservation made through an online travel agency (OTA) or another third party, please contact them directly.

For those who are taking advantage in our Complimentary Stay offer and need to change your dates or cancel, please contact us at 1-877-751-8444.

Rest assured that we will contact you in the event that we are required to further change course due to updated health and safety guidance. Thank you for your continued support and understanding as our team navigates what is truly new ground. This is a fluid situation with local, state, and federal jurisdictions issuing guidance and/or restrictions continuously.

covidWe understand that your vacations with us are not what any of us are used to and we apologize for that. The new rules and restrictions that have been placed upon us from State of Nevada’s Directive 024 are one’s we need to follow so we can get back to the Vegas everyone loves! We are doing everything we can to comply with these rules while still maintaining the level of enjoyment that you have grown to expect. With your help, we can navigate through these unchartered territories together and shed those masks! We would like to thank our owners, guests and employees that have been so understanding and cooperative during these times so we can be the Tahiti Village we all want!

Tahiti Village Resort wants to thank you for your continued support and love as we do everything we can to provide you with the best vacation possible!

Chefs4Vegas are holding their proclamation

Chefs4Vegas: Executive Chef Jason Diaz

Chefs4VegasThis pandemic has been taxing and stressful on everyone, that is no secret. In this time of unknowing, it is nice to shed light on the good happening, as well; especially right here in the Las Vegas community. A beam of light is the creation of Chefs4Vegas.

During the state shut down, there was a surplus of food and products that many chefs and restaurants were sitting on. As a result, many were reaching out to venders and colleagues for advice on where to try and appropriately dispose of the items. Tahiti Village’s Executive Chef, Jason Diaz and other local chefs gathered together on April 18th in a dirt lot off of Tenaya and Warm Springs to find a solution.

After brainstorming, talking, and creating a blue print it was there in that dirt lot that Chefs4Vegas was created. “It even rained on us that day but that didn’t stop us from doing what we felt was right,” said Daiz.

That following week they set up a food bank with the help of other vendors and local chefs, in that day they were able to feed over 300 families in need. “Whenever you can give to your community and provide for them, it is heartwarming,” said Diaz.

This was supposed to be a one-time deal, however the demand grew, the families in need increased and Chefs4Vegas continued helping the community for 10 consecutive weeks. To date, the chefs as a group along with other community partners have provided sustenance to over 10,000 local Las Vegas families.

On June 16th, Chefs4Vegas was awarded a Proclamation from the City of Las Vegas for helping the local community in time of crisis. Chefs4Vegas has now been granted a 501C3, which acknowledges them as a full-fledged nonprofit organization.

“I grew up with not a whole bunch and I relied on food pantries. I know how much that means to a community and I know how much that means to a lot of people. If I could give back and do that, try to do right for them, that’s all this is really about,” said Diaz.

June 24th was another big day for Chefs4Vegas as they traveled to McGill, Nevada to set up a food pantry for that community. “This pandemic really hit hard in that area and there were lots of reports of people not having a lot to survive on. It is very sad times we are in,” said Diaz.

In the midst of all of the sadness, it is heartwarming to know that there are good people in our community that care and are willing to go the extra mile to make sure that everyone has what is necessary during these times.

“The thank you’s and the social media posts from some of these people that really, really needed it is amazing. There is no better feeling then to give back to your community,” said Diaz.

Be sure to give Chef Jason a social distanced high-five or say hello the next time you see him. He and many others have done so much for Las Vegas inChefs4Vegas such a short amount of time. We are extremely proud of our Chef and all that he has done and continues to do every day.

We would also like to say thank you to the other chefs and some of the vendors involved in Chefs4Vegas!

Tahiti Village Resort Las Vegas tropical paradise lazy river

Sing along to the Lazy River song!

One of our most popular attractions at family friendly Tahiti Village Resort & Spa is the lazy river. Featuring a scenic palm tree island and four waterfall features at fixed points along its route, the 185,000-gallon lazy river is an eighth-of-a-mile of pure floating pleasure. Just how popular is it? It’s so popular that it inspired at least one person to write a song and post the performance to YouTube. We think it’s a great song, if we do say so ourselves, and are pleased to present it below for your viewing and listening pleasure.

Tahiti Village Vacation Club Owner Saundra Dexter

Tahiti Village Owner Spotlight

Family friendly Tahiti Village, Las Vegas’ favorite tropical resort paradise, is home to 50,000 happy vacation owners who return year after year to enjoy our relaxing lazy river, tropical beach pool, two 24-hour hot tubs, condo-style accommodations, convenient amenities, numerous onsite activities, and tempting menu choices at 17˚ South Booze & Bites.

In our new monthly feature on the Tahiti Village blog, you will meet a Tahiti Village owner who has embraced vacation ownership and discover the reasons our Polynesian-styled resort on the south end of the world famous Las Vegas Strip is like a second home. We’re sure you’ll relate!

For this, our premier owner profile, we present Saundra Dexter , an original Tahiti Village owner from Minnesota.

When you live in the coldest city in the contiguous United States, as Saundra Dexter does, visiting tropical Tahiti Village Resort & Spa in sunny Las Vegas is like going from an icebox to an oasis.

Saundra is one of the 6,000 or so inhabitants of International Falls, Minn., the so-called “Icebox of the Nation” where the temperature dips below freezing more than 100 days a year.

So it always time to rejoice when she and her husband, Sandy, pay their twice yearly visits to family friendly Tahiti Village in Las Vegas.

Out Of The Cold

“We absolutely love it here,” Saundra says of Tahiti Village, Las Vegas’ favorite tropical resort paradise. “It’s just beautiful. Everyone’s so kind, and I like being away from everything yet having access to it all. We met a guy on the shuttle last night. He was staying at another resort and said he hadn’t slept in three nights. I said, `Honey, trust me. You’ll sleep here.’ That’s what I like about Tahiti Village. It’s peaceful; you can go into Vegas if you want to and still get away from the hustle and bustle. It’s like being away from everything yet having access to everything.”

Tahiti Village Vacation Club Owner Saundra Dexter
Owner Saundra Dexter poses by the waterfall inside the Tahiti Village pool on a recent visit.

Original Tahiti Village owners, the Dexters bought into vacation ownership here at Tahiti Village in 2003, three years before our grand opening. “It was just a lot of gravel,” Saundra says. She, Sandy and their two children were visiting Las Vegas and staying at Circus-Circus when they came across a vacation ownership booth in the casino.

“They asked us to take a tour. We said, `Sure, who not?’”

Vacation Ownership

The following day they visited Club de Soleil, a sister Somerpointe Resorts property that had an architectural model of the proposed Tahiti Village property.

“They showed us where it would be,” Saundra says, “and we bought the Bora Bora sight unseen. Later on we bought a second Bora because we have two children, and when we pass each of them could have their own. Then we made it two Royal Tahitians to get the most out of our time. With two Royals we can do a week in a Moorea and a week in a Bora. I could have four weeks if I wanted.”

For the Dexters, it has been nothing but good times ever since. Before they became Tahiti Village Vacation Club members, they rarely if ever left International Falls. As owners of Sandy’s Place, a 38-seat mom and pop restaurant, time away was almost nonexistent.

“When you own a restaurant you don’t take vacations,” Saundra says, citing all the responsibilities on her plate. “I cook, I waitress, I do the books.” If she doesn’t do it, it may not get done.

Vegas Calling

After years of staying close to home, Sandy made a corporate decision for the both of them. “He finally said, `We are buying a condo so it will force you to go on vacation’.”

And it worked, Saundra says. “If I have the weeks to use I’m not going to lose them. We’re definitely going!”

The Dexters typically split sides with their two grown children, who take the Moorea while mom and pop get dibs on the larger Bora Bora.

“That way we can all be together yet still have our own space,” says Saundra, who brought the entire Sandy’s Place staff to Tahiti Village as a Christmas bonus (“they had so much fun”) and her mother and sister on another visit. It was not only their first trip to Las Vegas, but her sister’s first time on an airplane.

“It’s very nice to be able to bring your family and friends to Las Vegas without it costing a huge amount,” she says.

Outdoor Dining at 17° South

As a restaurant owner, Saundra naturally compares other eating establishments to her own. She enjoys the tropical ambiance and spacious patio dining at 17° South Booze & Bites, Tahiti Village’s popular onsite restaurant.

“I love that it opens up to the outside, especially when we’re here over the holidays and the temperature is in the 50s or 60s,” she says. “We can’t eat outside at home in December, so it’s a nice treat.”

As original owners, the Dexters have witnessed numerous positive additions to the property over the years, including 17˚ South, an adults-only hot tub, comprehensive room renovations, a complete lobby remodel, a coffee and snack bar addition to the Wiki Wiki gift shop, and most recently an all-new game arcade in Tower 1.

“We’re always excited to see what they’ve done since the last time we were here,” Saundra says. “It’s one of the things that keep us coming back, in addition to the resort staff and management. Everyone is so nice.”

Sandy, a former U.S. Marine who served in Vietnam, plays golf when he comes to Las Vegas, and the Dexters always see the sights, including the Fremont Street Experience, the Bellagio Fountains and Red Rock Canyon.

“We always have to go to Fremont Street to see the lights.”

But mainly, Saundra says, “we like to kick back and relax. It’s just so peaceful.”

Thank you, Saundra! We truly value your ownership.
