New digital room safes, scheduled for a May installation, are bigger (and safer) than ever!

On Aug. 29, 2015, “Erin A.” from San Diego submitted a review of her Tahiti Village visit to Yelp. Her comments were happily, though not completely, complimentary.

“Don’t count on using the safe unless you only need it for your wallet,” she wrote. “We wanted to put our laptop in it but that was out of the question.”

Recently we were reminded of Erin’s appraisal when we took shipment of new guest room safes – 38,000 pounds worth, according to facilities director Patrick St. Pierre.

Earmarked for a May installation over three weeks, the new safes are everything the present ones aren’t. Unlike our 10×10 lock boxes, they are digital and permit users to enter their own access code. As an added security precaution, once they’re opened the safes erase the existing code and require a new one.

The big news, however, is their size. How big are they? Big enough, Patrick says, to hold up to a 17-inch laptop. So there you have it, Erin. Come back soon and don’t forget your computer!

The hunt for hidden Easter candy commences this Sunday morning at Tahiti Village

Young treasure seekers will scramble for hidden goodies at our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 16. The event goes from 9-10:30 a.m. and will begin with a meetup at the Island Courtyard. Children 12 and under will hunt in Manihi Isle, while those 13 and over will search the lazy river. More than 3,000 candy-filled plastic eggs will be there for the taking. Bags will be provided.

“This is our most well-attended event,” said Tara Steininger, Tahiti Village activities director. “We’re forecasting 350-500 participants this year. We had 375 last year.”

Following the hunt, participants will return to the Island Courtyard for music, crafts, games, and a jelly bean guessing contest. This a wonderful activity for the entire family.

We won an ARDY! Let’s Party!

It is with great pride that we announce our victory in Category 76 of the Resort Design Division, Common Area Refurbishment, at the ARDA Awards Gala March 29. The gala, a component of the annual ARDA World Global Timeshare Event, this year held March 26-30 in New Orleans, honors high achievement in four areas:

Advertising, Promotion and Communications
Management & Administration
Resort Design
Sales & Marketing

To the winners go the ARDY, the vacation ownership industry equivalent of the Oscar and the Emmy. For us at Tahiti Village, the honor affirms what others – namely our owners and visitors – have been saying about our $200,000 main lobby renovation.

They like it!

The award is testament to the keen eye and unerring sensibilities of interior designer Ron Nicola, who gave our lobby a bright, fresh look. It now features updated tables and chairs, colorful couches, decorative space dividers, recovered pillars, and eye-catching wall art. The previous island motif of dominant browns and greens has been replaced with vibrant colors and modern furniture that invite you to sit down and stay awhile. Check it out while you’re checking in!

The Raiders are coming! The Raiders are coming!

One of the National Football League’s marquee franchises, the Oakland Raiders, are moving to Las Vegas – and they’ll be playing their games in a brand new, state-of-the-art facility just two miles from Tahiti Village!

The 65,000-seat domed stadium will sit on 62 acres of land west of Interstate 15, just south of Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The Raiders will begin playing in Las Vegas in 2020.

We at Tahiti Village extend a warm welcome to the Raiders and all the members of Raider Nation who will be making the pilgrimage to Las Vegas in support of the Silver and Black.

Las Vegas Raiders – what a nice ring!

Drag racer Terry McMillen set to make his first 2017 visit to Tahiti Village. This time get twice the Terry!

When the NHRA Nationals pays its biannual visit to Las Vegas, you can count on Terry McMillen doing two things: 1) Sending his 8,000-horsepower dragster down the track at more than 300 miles per hour and 2) staying here at Tahiti Village when he’s through.

As the official resort of Terry and his crew, we’ll be hosting a meet and greet with the top fuel drag racer from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, ahead of his appearance at the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Terry will be chatting with fans, signing autographs and posing for photos next to his Amalie Oil dragster from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. beneath the porte cochere. You may even have the opportunity to sit in the cockpit! Terry’s team will unload the dragster at approximately 10 a.m. Refreshments and popcorn will be provided.

If you can’t get enough Terry in the morning, he’ll be making an encore appearance that night during our weekly owners’ night event from 6-8 p.m. at 17˚ South Booze & Bites, our onsite bar and bistro.

For more information on Terry, please visit www.terrymcmillen.com. For more information on the race, please go to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway website at www.lvms.com or www.nhra.com, the National Hot Rod Association’s site.

Mouthwatering selections await you on the new 17˚ South Booze & Bites menu!

If you’re one of those people who respond like Pavlov’s dog to the inclusion of “housemade beer cheese sauce” and “smoked burnt rib ends” on a menu, you’re going to love the new selections at 17˚ South Booze & Bites, the stylish onsite bar and bistro at Tahiti Village.

As we prepare for our third anniversary this summer, we’ve updated our menu ahead of the big birthday celebration with enticing appetizers, satisfying burgers and sandwiches, and entrees that are sure to sound the dinner bell.

Wringing every ounce of inspiration from his years of crafting delectable culinary concoctions, our executive chef created an array of familiar favorites spiced with delicious twists.

Take our calamari. In its usual state of deep fried rings and still-attached tentacles, it is an appetizer staple on menus all over the country. Meh, right? But at 17˚ South, we zing your expectations with a kung pao kick!

Mac and cheese? Who doesn’t like mac and cheese? Except we do it dirty, with those aforementioned smoked burnt rib ends commingling delicious char with all that heavenly cheese.

And speaking of heavenly cheese, we can’t wait for you to try our wagyu sloppy joe nachos with – we repeat it here because we can’t say it enough – housemade beer cheese sauce! An extra tortilla chip for telling us what wagyu is without  a Google assist.

If all that goodness comes with too much guilt, you’ll be happy to know we have three salads to choose from: chopped, Caesar and mixed green.

If you can’t exist on lettuce alone, “let us” recommend a 17˚ South burger with smoked bacon and “fancy sauce.” Or a barbecue pork sandwich with Saigon-style pork. Or a sirloin steak sandwich with provolone cheese and horsey cream. Or a stack of specialty pizzas. Or a lineup of mouthwatering entrees that will have you coming back every night of your visit.

We look forward to satisfying all your culinary cravings!

Know how you can tell things are heating up in Vegas? We’ve opened our poolside tiki bars for the summer!

With Las Vegas temperatures creeping into the 70s this week and visitors beginning to flock to our aquatic attractions like competitive eaters to an endless buffet, we thought, `Ah, what the heck. Let’s open the poolside tiki bars for the summer. In March!’

So that’s what we’ve done, opened the Sand Box in the main pool area and the bar inside the lazy river, appropriately called the Lazy River Bar. As usual, they contain a tempting selection of beer, wine, and tropical drink type thingies for you to enjoy while you’re relaxing in the sunshine and contemplating your next move.

And speaking of your next move – will it be a relaxing trip down the Lazy River? A soothing soak in the adult hot tub? Or what about another cold one as you soak in the rays and enjoy the lush scenery around our tropical beach pool? You have a lot of choices at Tahiti Village, and we invite you to try them all as get ready for another wonderful summer season!

We hope to see you here!

Tahiti Village Charity Car Wash

The timing of our first charity event of the year, a benefit car wash for the Las Vegas Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, couldn’t have been better. The rain that had pelted the city the previous two days agreeably relented by Feb. 20, leaving lots of spotted vehicles for our band of volunteer washers.

Tahiti Village employees lent their vehicles to the cause and a mixed group of team leaders, including ASNY CEO Todd Spector, Soleil Management president Richard Rodriguez, Somerpointe Resorts senior vice president and chief operating officer Carl Hardin, and Soleil chief financial officer Bob Wagner, put their elbows to work.

At the conclusion of four hours, we had washed 23 vehicles and raised $323 for the VFW, which assists veterans in obtaining benefits, lobbies for additional benefits, and helps returning soldiers assimilate back into civilian life.

The event was put on by the charitable arm of our corporate giving committee, ASNY Cares. ASNY is the parent company of Somerpointe Resorts, of which Tahiti Village is the flagship property, and Soleil Management, which oversees the vacation club. ASNY Cares is comprised of dedicated individuals from both.

A concurrent car wash to benefit the VFW at the ASNY corporate office in Las Vegas also raised $550, bringing the total to $873! We thank everyone for their generosity on behalf of a great cause.
