New sofa beds arriving just in time for summer snoozing

As the last remaining guest units receive new carpeting and vinyl flooring, bringing to a close the first phase of our yearlong room renovation project, we can now turn our attention to Phase 2, also known as: Here Come the Sofa Sleepers!

Our first sofa bed shipment – three truckloads of 42 queen sofa sleepers – arrived last week. That’s 126 if you’re counting. Two more truckloads are scheduled next week and two more the week after. Only when we have as many new sofa sleepers as guest units – another nine weeks, according to Tahiti Village director of facilities Patrick St. Pierre – will the trucks cease delivering.

Wider arm rests distinguish Bora Bora sofa beds from those in our Moorea units, so if you’re one of those people who require a nearby surface large enough to accommodate a pizza, please keep that in mind.

Installation is occurring on a piecemeal basis, starting with newly floored and carpeted Tower 5 units, then continuing in Tower 2 and finally Tower 1. Vacancy levels will determine how quickly we can complete the work.

Mahana Spa gets Alex Belfield YouTube treatment

Tucked away in an intimate setting on the ninth floor of Tower 5, Mahana Spa is a relaxing sanctuary where worries and stress melt away. Recently renovated and buoyed by dynamic new leadership, Tahiti Village’s intimate boutique spa and esthetic treatment center offers a variety of services in beautifully appointed candle-lit rooms.

Mahana Spa’s menu features a variety of facials and skin care treatments and multiple massage options, including Swedish, deep tissue, aromatherapy and Fijian hot stone. Hot oil Fijian scalp massages and foot revitalization treatments are popular additions to these services. Full body waxing is the fastest growing service in the Spa, especially with pool and tanning weather upon us, while couples’ massages continue to be the most popular item on the menu.

The Spa exclusively offers top-of-the-line skin and body products from Dermalogica Skin Care and Pure Fiji.

Recently, British celebrity and friend of Tahiti Village Alex Belfield enjoyed a hands-on experience with one of our talented Mahana Spa bliss givers and graciously produced a five-minute YouTube video on our behalf (see below). It includes an interview with new spa director Carole Bambacus, who is creating a Spa environment that can rival any in Las Vegas.

Thank you, Alex!

Spa hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. The next time you’re at Tahiti Village and looking to pamper yourself, just dial extension 6855 from your room to book an appointment. You’ll thank yourself.

Rock in Rio USA set to rock (and pop) in Las Vegas

Rock in Rio, an international music festival that debuted in Brazil in 1985, is celebrating 30 years with its first U.S. event in Las Vegas. Rock in Rio USA will run two consecutive weekends, May 8-9 and May 15-16, on grounds at the corner of Sahara Avenue and the Strip.

The 37-acre “City of Rock” site, a permanent addition to the Las Vegas Strip, has six music stages and can accommodate 85,000 people. This Friday and Saturday will find No Doubt and Metallica headlining Rock Weekend on the main stage May 8-9 respectively. Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars will headline Pop Weekend on the main stage May 15-16 respectively.

Numerous other rock and pop acts will perform throughout both weekends. Click here for the complete lineup.

In addition to the abundant musical offerings, festival goers will also enjoy themed street fairs, a zip line and an air-conditioned VIP area complete with premium stage views and a buffet.

If you’re staying with us at Tahiti Village this weekend or next and looking for something different to do, Rock in Rio USA could be just the ticket. Please note: There is no onsite parking for this event. You can either take a cab or our free Strip shuttle, which will drop you off at The Mirage. It is less than two miles from there to the Rock in Rio site.

New carpet and flooring: Two towers down, one to go!

The completion last week of the new carpet and vinyl flooring installation in all Tower 2 guest units means we are entering the home stretch of that portion of our yearlong room renovation project. Occupancy rates will determine how quickly we will be able to install the carpet and vinyl flooring in Tower 5 and finish the foot-friendly project.

Tower 1 was the first of our three guest towers to receive new flooring and carpeting. The project there went smoothly and was completed in March. New sofa sleepers and balcony furniture will put the finishing touches on the resort-wide room renovation. The first shipment of sleepers is expected on May 4. The patio furniture is due in June.

Annual Easter egg hunt set for this Saturday

This is the one time of year when it’s advisable to put all your eggs in one basket – and the more the merrier.

This is certainly true if you’re a child and planning to participate in our annual Easter egg hunt this Saturday, when intrepid hunter-gatherers will fill their baskets from a bounty of more than 3,000 plastic candy-filled eggs hidden inside the Lazy River.

“The Easter egg hunt is a highly anticipated event,” Tahiti Village activities director Britny Flores said. “We look forward to hiding the eggs almost as much as the kids like finding them.”

Participants will meet at 9 a.m. inside the Island Courtyard for the start of the hunt and return for games, face painting, Easter crafts, a prize drawing, live music and photos with an inflatable bunny.

This is a great activity for the entire family.

Terry McMillen set to make his first 2015 Village visit

We invite you to meet Terry McMillen beneath the porte cochere of the main lobby building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Wednesday as the NHRA drag racer makes the first of his two yearly appearances at Tahiti Village. You can talk to and pose for pictures with Terry, marvel at (and maybe sit inside of) his awesome 8,000-horsepower Amalie Oil dragster, and enjoy free popcorn. We are proud to host Terry and his crew during the NHRA Nationals at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway every spring and fall. Good luck, Terry!
