Beware of Timeshare Resale Companies
The recent receipt of a letter by some of our owners from a company offering to relieve timeshare maintenance and associated fees through the sale of the property – in exchange for an upfront fee – is a reminder of the numerous resale companies engaging in fraudulent practices.
All industries have unscrupulous companies preying on consumers, and vacation ownership is no different. Fortunately they’re easy to spot. If a company asks for advance payment to sell your timeshare or remove future maintenance fee obligations, you can be certain it is fraudulent.
These companies typically obtain your contact information through public records and manipulate you into sending them money or deeding over your property.
For example, a phone call from a person identifying himself as an authorized company representative can be just the first in a series of fabrications designed to steal your money. These so-called representatives will engage in high pressure tactics, saying the current phone call represents your only chance to forego your maintenance fee payments.
Don’t fall for it.
Characteristics of fraudulent resale companies include the lack of a website you can readily Google. If there is a site it may contain a PO Box instead of a physical address in the contact information. A phone number, if one is listed at all, is usually a fake. The best rule of thumb, as always, is never give money or important signed documents to companies you yourself have not contacted.
Independence Day in Las Vegas – Fireworks and Festivities
Las Vegas is all about lights and excitement, but on Independence Day the city really breaks out the glitter and glam. Whether you are looking for a weekend of family fun at the resort or you plan to kick up your heels for a night on the town, Tahiti Village is the perfect place to stay this year on the Fourth of July.
At Tahiti Village
You can enjoy all the traditional Independence Day fun without leaving the resort. Tahiti Village’s iconic pool area is the perfect island paradise to bask in the sun, play in the water and party with friends and family. When you are ready for that annual Fourth of July picnic, head over to one of the BBQ areas and show off your grilling skills. On Sunday night don’t miss the weekly Luau at the Island Courtyard where you can enjoy some authentic island cuisine and entertainment.
When the sun sets on the Fourth, wander over to Tower 5 and take the elevator to the 10th floor for a truly amazing show. The Skyview 510 lounge offers a panoramic view of the strip and two outdoor balconies, giving you the best seat in town for the incredible firework displays that will light up the Vegas skyline.
Out on the Town
If you are in the mood for a night on the town, take a walk down the Strip. On the Fourth, you can join the crowd around the fountains at Caesars Palace to watch an electrifying display of fireworks by Grucci. To enjoy a little music before the fireworks begin, check out the concert at Mandalay Bay, featuring rock band 311. If the scorching desert sun is getting to you, cool down at the Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower with their “Independence Pool Party.”
For a real taste of Vegas nightlife, include some of the top Las Vegas clubs in your Independence Day plans. XS Nightclub at Encore offers both an outdoor pool area and indoor dance floor, while TAO, located in the Venetian, boasts an outside terrace with an amazing view of the Strip. Both offer a scintillating night of dancing and music provided by some of the hottest DJs in Vegas.
However you plan to celebrate Independence Day this year, you can do it all by booking a room at Tahiti Village and reveling in a weekend of exhilarating Las Vegas fun.
Five men are more than a match for our 682 palm trees
Examples of hopelessly overmatched armies overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds are ubiquitous throughout history.
- There was the Battle of Saragarhi, where 21 Sikh fighters defeated 10,000 frothing Afghans in 1897
- The Battle of Longewala, which raged for four days in 1971, resulted in the humiliating defeat of 2,000 Pakistanis at the hands of 120 Indian soldiers
- In 1213, 1,600 Crusaders routed more than 30,000 Aragonese and heretical Christians in the Battle of Muret
- And at Long Tan in 1966, 108 Australian soldiers repelled 2,000 savage Vietcong.
Unlikely outcomes in the face of overwhelming obstacles aren’t exclusive to bloody battlefields, however. They also occur in the tropical paradise of Tahiti Village, where the ratio of palm trees to palm tree estheticians presently stands at 682:5 in favor of the palm trees.
Outnumbered by more than 135 to 1 and dwarfed in some cases by more than 50 feet, Daniel Lemus and his intrepid crew from Daniel’s Lawn Maintenance could be forgiven for retreating – if only to gather reinforcements.
But withdrawing isn’t an option in their strategy plan. The palm trees require grooming and Daniel and his four-man team attack the job with chainsaws, climbing gear, long-handled shears, scythes and a boom lift twice a year, once in summer and once in fall.
The purpose is both practical and esthetic. Skinning (or shaving) the trees is just for looks, Daniel says. Cutting the leaves is necessary to prevent the palm’s flowers from turning into seeds (what he calls “suckers”), falling to the ground and creating too many voluntary palms.
“Our main target is the dry leaves and suckers,” Daniel says. “They dry out and die.”
The majority of Tahiti Village’s 682 palm trees are 45 to 50 feet tall. The tallest can soar to 60 feet, and our voluntary palms – about 150 – range from 15-20 feet. Tree height determines how Daniel and his team will ascend the palm.
“The 40-foot tall boom lift can be used on most of the palm trees,” he said, explaining the worker’s added height combined with his outstretched arms puts him nearly level with the 50-foot palm trees.
For the 60-footers, they don climbing belts and boot spikes and shimmy up the face of the tree.
Whether they use a chainsaw or a quiet cutting tool depends on the time of day. Early in the morning (they begin work at 6 a.m.) Daniel and the team break out the shears or scythe as a courtesy to sleeping guests. In the afternoon, it’s typically the chainsaws.
No matter which one they choose, the end result is always the same: Our palms trees turn out looking great.
Celebrate 17° South’s first anniversary
Has it really been a year? It has! And we’re celebrating the first anniversary of 17° South Booze & Bites all this weekend. The fun starts at 11 a.m. Friday, June 12, at our onsite bar and bistro and runs through Sunday.
Enjoy great beer specials from 2-5 p.m., including $2 Bud and Bud Light drafts and our very own 17° South Honey Lager for only – wait now – $1.17. You read that right – $1.17!!!
We’re also serving up two special main courses for just $9.99. Take your pick of a soy ginger glazed strip steak, coconut rice and macaroni salad or a ginger-peppered steak quesadilla with pineapple salsa and Asian barbecue sauce. Heck, for less than 10 bucks get both!
We’ll be playing island music and giving away hats and T-shirts. And of course there will be no shortage of balloons. It’s our way of saying thank you for helping make our first year one to remember.
Tahiti Village
Top Pet-Friendly Destinations in Las Vegas
For many of us, our pets are a part of our family and leaving them behind when on vacation can be difficult. For visitors planning on coming to Las Vegas with their favorite furry companion, here are a few things to know before your trip – as well as some of the more pet-friendly places that allow your pet to tag along for the adventure.
The Strip is not Pet-Friendly (sort of)
This may come as a surprise, but pets are not allowed on the Strip outside of the hours of 5am – noon. The ordinance that banned all pets from the famous boulevard aside from the previously mentioned hours was implemented in 2012 in order to prevent animal cruelty and prevent biting incidents in the highly populous area.
Pet Resort
Partnering with Tahiti Village as an option for owners looking to bring their furry loved one to Vegas, A V.I.P. Resort is a fully staffed facility specializing in taking care of vacationing pets. Less than a mile away from Tahiti Village, A V.I.P. offers pickup and drop-off services, plus allows drop-ins from pet owners any time during business hours for those that miss their best friends.
Dog Parks
Dog Fancier’s Park
When your furry friend is ready to run, take him to Dog Fancier’s Park. This huge park spans 12 acres and has five separate fenced areas. Four of those areas can be reserved, but the last is always open to the public. In case your pet should need some medical attention during your stay in Las Vegas, the Mountain Vista Animal Hospital is just five minutes away on East Flamingo Road.
Barkin’ Basin Park
The Barkin’ Basin Park is 7.75 acres and boasts separate areas for big and small dogs, so your four-footed friend will have plenty of room to run and play in a comfortable setting. Meanwhile, you can chat with other pet owners in the shaded seating area. The park also has water fountains for dogs and people, so everyone can stay happy and hydrated. If your pet is in need of a bath or a trim, there are several pet groomers nearby, including Bow Wow Meow Pet Grooming, which is less than two miles away. While you are in the area, you might also want to stop by the Three Dog Bakery and get your pet pal a delicious, fresh baked treat.
When you are traveling with your pets, you want to be sure to prepare for their needs as well as your own. This list of pet-friendly parks and services should help you plan a Las Vegas vacation that will have the whole family barking for joy.

How to Have a Full day of Fun in Vegas without Leaving the Resort
While almost every corner of Las Vegas offers a new avenue for entertainment, you can enjoy a full day of fun and relaxation without ever leaving the resort. Tahiti Village offers you the thrill and delight of a tropical vacation right in the heart of Las Vegas.
Start your day with delicious French toast or a ham and egg omelet at Denny’s, conveniently located on the first floor of the Tahiti Joe’s building. When you are done eating, wander through the main lobby and note the 24-hour fitness center and seating area where you can relax with a good book or use the Wi-Fi connection.
Next, change into your swimming suit and head over to Tahiti Village’s pool, where you can lounge under the shade of a sculpted palm tree, curl your toes in the warm sand of the beach entry, or join in a game of pool volleyball in the play area. Unwind in the poolside Jacuzzi spa or float down the Lazy River and you will really feel like you have escaped to the islands.
When hunger strikes again, make your way to the BBQ area and use one of the 18 available stainless steel grills to grill up the perfect lunch. Forgot to pack a steak in your suitcase? You can have any groceries you need delivered right to your room courtesy of Getawaygoods.
After lunch, the healing hands at Mahana Spa will soothe away your cares with a massage perfectly suited to your relaxation needs. Choose between options like Alluring Aromatherapy or Couples Escape, or traditional treatment selections like facials and moisturizing body wraps.
As evening approaches, take a walk back over to the main lobby, where you will find the 17 South bar. Take a sip of an island favorite, such as a South Seas Fantasy or Mai Tai Typhoon, and then order a specialty burger or pizza off the dinner menu.
If your stay will include a Sunday night, be sure to visit the Island Courtyard for the weekly Luau. The whole family will love the authentic Polynesian cuisine and performances by the Hot Lava’s singers, hula dancers, and other specialty acts.
While you are taking in all of the sights and attractions available in Las Vegas, don’t miss out on the pleasures available inside the Tahiti Village resort.
