Book a visit to Tahiti Village and suffer no more from Guilty Vacation Syndrome!

The lazy river at Tahiti Village is one of our cures for Guilty Vacation Syndrome.
The lazy river at Tahiti Village is one of our cures for Guilty Vacation Syndrome.

Are you suffering from Guilty Vacation Syndrome, the nagging urge to cancel or delay vacations due to guilt? Based on the results of a recent family vacation survey, you probably are. It is especially likely if you’re a Millennial, 59 percent of which report feeling ashamed for taking or planning a vacation in a time when vacation-shaming in offices nationwide and around the word is growing at an unprecedented rate.

Of those 59 percent that reported having unused paid vacation days, 40 percent said they left five or more vacation days unused because they did not want to deal with the guilt associated with taking a vacation.

Neither are older individuals immune from the guilt. In the same survey, 41 percent of individuals 35 and older felt the same symptoms of Guilty Vacation Syndrome, or GVS. Symptoms (misplaced emotions, indecisiveness, sadness) often go undetected or are mistaken for other, less serious ailments. GVS can also have the ironic side effect impacting your work productivity.

Recent research also shows that an astounding 55 percent of Americans didn’t use all of their time off in 2015, and 65 percent say that their company discourages, sends mixed messages, or says nothing about taking personal time off.

With vacation-shaming growing in offices across the world, there has been a surge in diagnoses of GVS. Many feel that despite wanting a vacation, they shouldn’t take one.

Proven remedies for GVS include:

Realizing that vacations are a necessity and not a luxury.

Commit to an annual vacation—a recipe for stronger ties with families and friends, less stress and better health.

Learning from those that have never suffered from this malady (specifically, timeshare owners who have continued to make vacations a priority).

It’s proven that one to two weeks away from the daily routine leads to better job performance and productivity—perhaps helping to make your job even more secure when you return to it.

Our advice? Book a visit to Tahiti Village as soon as you can. Las Vegas is a number-one doctor-recommended cure for GVS. You certain to feel like a new you!

Shop `til You Drop in Las Vegas!

Lots of you (like 42 million or so) visit Las Vegas every year. You come for different reasons. For some of you, it’s the thrill of the chase – the pursuit of the big score more than the score itself that activates the pleasure center in your brain and keeps you coming back time and again.

For others of you, it’s the opportunity to fine dine in restaurants helmed by world renowned chefs (like Jason Diaz’s 17˚ South Booze & Bites at Tahiti Village!). Still more of you savor the variety of entertainment options on offer, from popular headliner acts to traditional Cirque-style production shows to ubiquitous comedy clubs.

Then there are those of you for whom a visit to Vegas means one thing and one thing only: shopping! Get this: We know a guy who has a wife who has a sister who, on her yearly trips to our radiant city, buys two extra suitcases while she’s here just to hold all the stuff she’s going to bring back. One of those suitcases, we’re told, is reserved for shoes.

We imagine such single-minded devotion to wardrobe wrangling isn’t analogous to this one individual. Judging by the number of shopping outlets that enable this behavior, we must deduce it is epidemic! Therefore, this article on Las Vegas retail outlets isn’t for the initiated; they already know and have patronized these alluring establishments many times over.

It is for you, the person who enjoys a good shop on vacation but doesn’t know where to go in Las Vegas.

For your reading convenience, we have broken down the enviable array of choices into three categories based on their dominant demographic: Mostly Visitors, Mostly Locals, Vegans & Visitors Combo Platter. (That’s Vay-gans as in Las Vegans, not veeeeegans as in people who abstain from animal products.)

So without further delay, let’s go shopping!

MOSTLY VISITORS

As Strip-based shops (or shoppes, for the two that insist on intentional old-fashioned quaintness), these typically adhere thematically to their host hotels and create a uniquely Vegas shopping experience where entertainment is built into the buying. This is exemplified most dramatically at the Venetian’s Grand Canal Shoppes, which features its own gondoliers!

Miracle Mile Shops (Planet Hollywood)

Grand Bazaar Shops (Bally’s)

The Forum Shops at Caesars (Caesars Palace)

The Shops at Crystals (Aria)

The Grand Canal Shoppes (The Venetian)

The Shoppes at Mandalay Place (Mandalay Bay)

MOSTLY LOCALS

If you want to escape the magnetic hold of the Strip and mix with Vegas residents on their home turf (and in their food courts), the following will give you a true locals’ experience.

Boulevard Mall

Opening in 1968, the Boulevard is Las Vegas’ oldest mall. Centrally located on Maryland Parkway, the Boulevard has undergone numerous recent changes. Longtime anchor stores Dillard’s, Macy’s and JCPenney have all left and been replaced by nontraditional tenants new management hopes will attract a younger clientele.

Meadows Mall

Residents of the growing near northwest area of Las Vegas received a mall of their own when the Meadows opened in 1978. The double decker mall still features original anchor tenants Sears, JCPenney, Dillard’s and Macy’s in addition to the changing cast of storefronts.

Galleria at Sunset

Opening in 1996, the Galleria at Sunset finally gave suburban Henderson residents a mall to call their own. Like the others mentioned above, it offers standard mall fare but will more than adequately satisfy your shopping jones if you’re in the area.

VEGANS & VISITORS COMBO PLATTER

Fashion Show Mall (Las Vegas Strip)

The Strip’s first mall was a sensation when it opened in 1981 and still retains its upscale cred. Bringing high-end anchor tenants and chic specialty shops to Las Vegas for the first time, the Fashion Show attracted a mix of locals and visitors to its mid-Strip location. Thirty-seven years later, it still does.

Las Vegas South Premium Outlets

Similarly named but geographically opposed, this premium pair offers convenient shopping options for those staying downtown (north) and those visiting Tahiti Village or any of the nearby resorts (south). If you’re here in winter, be advised: Las Vegas North’s walking spaces are outdoors.

With the exception of Town Square Las Vegas, which is centrally located on Las Vegas Boulevard a mile from Tahiti Village, the following are far-flung from the Strip but well worth the drive.

Town Square Las Vegas

The District at Green Valley Ranch (Henderson)

Downtown Summerlin (Summerlin)

Tivoli Village (Northwest)

Happy shopping!

OctoBEER: Where to Find Craft Beer in Vegas

When you think of a beer town, Vegas doesn’t immediately come to mind. But in the past five years, that’s all changed. While brewery heavyweights Denver, San Diego, and New England continue to pump out more craft beers by the day, Las Vegas breweries have quietly emerged from the lights of the Strip to brew and pour some of the best beers around. So where can you find the best local and national suds? Our Vegas beer guide is your ticket to find the best craft beer in Las Vegas before your next day or night out. It’s time to get on board with the best brews in Sin City.

Let our virtual beer crawl begin!

First Stop: Tenaya Creek Brewery

3101 North Tenaya Way, Las Vegas | (702) 362-7335

Tenaya Creek Brewery in Las VegasAttribute: Tenaya Creek

When Tenaya Creek’s pilsner was awarded a Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival, beer heads took notice, descending on the North Vegas brewing facility for a chance to try the prized beer. Tenaya Creek dedicates more than a handful of their taps to in-house creations, while the remaining taps pour pints from guest kegs. The brewery offers a wide range of beers, from winter-ready stouts and porters, to west-inspired IPA’s–both single and double. Their Hefeweizen is a summertime favorite, while the brown ale is well-equipped to go it alone down the hatch, or better yet, to wash down a delicious meal dished out by the food trucks that wheel through twice weekly. The brewery has an outdoor patio for those looking to enjoy the clash between chilled beer and desert sunlight.

Must Sippers: Hop Ride IPA and any of their latest dry-hopped beers.

For Seconds: Sin City Brewing

3663 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV 89109 | (702) 732-1142

Even saints love drinking at Sin City Brewing, making Sin City the ultimate brew paradise. The brewery has 4 locations all on Las Vegas Boulevard, with the original of the four set inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Sin City pours 5 custom, classic brews in addition to seasonal offerings. Their regular starting five includes a low-ABV Hefeweizen, a refreshing blonde, a full-bodied Amber, a British-style IPA, and lastly, an Irish dry stout. The IPA and stouts have gained notoriety by the foreign beer elite, while the Amber is a worthy ode to the stein-swinging Germans.

In case you need to change your shirt after a few good spills, all locations feature Sin City’s popular gear.

Must Sippers: Sin City Stout and Sin City IPA

Third Sips: Public House

3355 South Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas | (702) 407-5310

For strip goers, Public House doesn’t disappoint. No, they don’t brew their own beer, but you can have a taste of many regions at one festive space. Located within the Venetian, Public House features an incredibly extensive beer list, offering up some of the best beers from breweries all around the world. The staff is very knowledgeable, so feel free to put them to the test … or take a short trip to improv beer school as they walk through the latest things brewing in the world of beer.

The food borders on fine dining, so be sure to grab a bite with your pint to break up a day or evening of beer tasting.

Must Sippers: Pints from one of Vegas’ top breweries, if available.

A Fourth Pour: Banger Brewing

450 Fremont St #135, Las Vegas, NV 89101 |(702) 456-2739

Located in the Neonopolis shopping center, Banger is both a local and tourist favorite. And they know the art of the craft. This Fremont Street staple pours down a wide range of offbeat ales, some with pepper and fruit infusions, plus facility tours. And it doesn’t close until 1am, which guarantees that you’ll have a chance to try more than a few brews before closing time.

Must Sippers: The Perfect 10 APA and the Van Damme Belgian Strong.

A Fifth for Kicks: World Of Beer

Galleria at Sunset, 1300 W Sunset Rd, Ste. 2940, Henderson, NV 89014 | (702) 202-3323

A long row of beer taps at a bar.

Prepare to be overwhelmed with the gift of choice. With over 500 beer options and a slew of above-the-pub American bites, Henderson’s World of Beer (WOB) is truly a beer lover’s paradise. WOB serves up everything from ‘Beerunch’ classics and happy hour bites to full-on, foodie-friendly platters. Be sure to ask your waiter or bartender about time-tested pairings. $5 Burger and Brat Mondays are a can’t-miss.

In the realm of the newly tapped side of the beer menu, the Mother Earth Cali Creamin’ is an all-season favorite ale, while the cult classic Victory Golden Monkey gets high marks for its surprising drinkability. You can also find local favorites from Tenaya, as well as lesser-known beers from all corners of the globe. The atmosphere is inviting and cozy, boasting a modern brewpub-meets-classic-tavern environment. WOB’s hearty offerings and easy-drinking beer options make it a great final destination for any multi-stop Vegas beer tour.

Must Sippers: The Boulevard Tank 7 Farmhouse and Joseph James Hop Raider IPA.

Vegas is home to countless delicious beers and whether you’re out for a casual night with friends or are building a full-blown beer tasting itinerary, our city is “hoppin’” with great drinks.

Explore the Outdoors: Desert Style

Vegas is famous for its glittering lights and buzzing Strip – but Vegas’ natural landscape can’t be overlooked. The gorgeous desert foliage and red-hued rocks of Nevada create the perfect opportunities for outdoor activities in Las Vegas. The first step in exploring the outdoors in this desert landscape is knowing where to start.

Here are some of the most underestimated spots for outdoor exploration in and around Las Vegas:

Mount Charleston

Mount Charleston offers idyllic landscapes and gorgeous scenery that can only be experienced in the desert. Located in Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, Mount Charleston is widely known for offering some of the best views, hiking opportunities, and outdoor activities in Las Vegas. Each season brings with it new offerings on Mount Charleston, with winter and spring attracting skiers and snowboarders and summer and fall alluring hikers, trail runners, and mountain bikers.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Las Vegas locals will tell you that Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a must-see outdoor adventure. Known as one of America’s most diverse recreation areas, Lake Mead boasts opportunities to boat, hike, cycle, camp, fish, and beyond. Outdoor enthusiasts won’t be able to get enough of this year-round playground. Explore the Historic Railroad Trail or sit and relax at a tranquil marina. Between the canyons, valleys, mountains, and lakes, a visit to Lake Mead Recreation Area won’t disappoint.

Bonnie Springs Ranch

If you like to mix the outdoors with old west history, Bonnie Springs Ranch is the place for you. What was originally a stopover for travelers to California has become a charming escape for Nevada visitors and residents. Bonnie Springs Ranch is located in Red Rock Canyon and claims that it’s the “best kept secret”. Immerse yourself in the area’s history with horseback rides, tours, and an old western dining experience at the ranch restaurant.

Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex

What better way to explore the outdoors than in the largest wildlife refuge outside of Alaska? Desert National Wildlife Complex protects six major mountain ranges and countless plants and animals. Visitors that explore here will be greeted with stunning views, unique rock formations, and thriving ecosystems. Places to see include Corn Creek, Alamo Road, and Mormon Well Road.

Floyd Lamb Park

For 680 acres of lush foliage and active wildlife, pay a visit to Floyd Lamb Park. The park is backed by gorgeous views of the Sheep and Spring Mountain ranges, making it a great place to hike, picnic, or simply take a peaceful walk with loved ones. Explore the outdoors and get a feel for the area’s origins by visiting Floyd Lamb Ranch, where you can learn about the early Las Vegas lifestyle. Summers provide views of lush greens, while fall blankets the landscape in brilliant golden hues.

River Mountains Loop Trail

Perfect for Mojave desert explorers of all levels, the River Mountains Loop Trail offers paved trail options and beautiful views. The 34 miles of trails weave around the River Mountains, which connect the Hoover Dam, Henderson, Boulder City, and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The ease of the trails makes it easy for the entire family to explore together, making it one of the most inclusive outdoor activities in Las Vegas. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the trailhead map beforehand so you can plan your outing accordingly.

Hoover Dam

Visit the place that started it all – the Hoover Dam. The city of Las Vegas began to grow as a result of Hoover Dam construction workers seeking recreation and relaxation, making visiting the Hoover Dam a fun and unique way to celebrate Vegas’s beginnings and explore the great outdoors at the same time. Enjoy the beautiful Nevada waters by whitewater rafting, fishing, and swimming and enjoy the local wildlife by camping and hiking. Teeming with life and lush with natural beauty, the area is just waiting to be explored.

The bright lights and excitement of Las Vegas are part of what make it the enticing oasis in the desert that it is. But sometimes getting back to nature can provide the break from the pandemonium that we need. Luckily, Las Vegas is surrounded by some of the most scenic landscapes in the country. From picturesque parks to clear blue lakes to mountain view hikes, exploring the outdoors desert style never ceases to impress.

Status Update: Raiders Stadium Development

One of Las Vegas’ most exciting residencies is raiding the town and it’s got the whole city cheering. This particular residency takes place under a glass-domed roof, equipped with state-of-the-art retractable doors, and 65,000 seats overlooking a well-groomed natural grass field. Of course, we’re referring to the soon-to-be Las Vegas Raiders and their shiny, new Las Vegas stadium!

The Raiders Las Vegas Stadium Construction

With around 500 workers on site and a 1.8-BILLION-dollar budget, all Las Vegas Raiders Stadium construction employees are cruising at full speed to make their 2020 deadline. That might seem like a long time away, but watching the progression of the beautiful stadium being built will keep us entertained until the Raiders are here for good. There’s no doubt that other NFL cities will be quite envious of the final product, as our stadium will be loaded with all the bells and whistles. The black and silver building will shine like a jewel amongst a desert backdrop. Huge retractable doors will open, overlooking a bustling courtyard with the Las Vegas Strip just behind it.

The stadium is also equipped with a swanky, contemporary, fully-stocked bar, similar to a casino experience. Not to mention a below-level parking lot, which is completely unique and perfectly built for Sunday night tailgating. Ticket holders also have the option of booking a stadium suite that promises a “Super Bowl – like experience” every game day with world class luxury and service.

Currently, the stadium is only about 15% complete, so if you’d like to be the first to know about current stadium updates you can sign up to receive the latest information. As an added bonus, you can watch the whole construction process live. Score!

Plan a Las Vegas Football Vacation

*Where to Stay

The stadium may not be complete yet, but it’s not too early to start planning your Las Vegas football vacation! It may sound like an unorthodox combination… Las Vegas, football, and a tropical paradise hotel… but this is a promising combination worth waiting for. Imagine this: it’s gameday and you wake up to your family and closest friends enjoying their morning coffee in the kitchenette of your Tahiti Village suite. With comfortable beds and a cozy atmosphere, everyone is bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready for a football-filled day.

With this newly refreshed energy, you are ready watch some football but you’re not looking forward to a long drive in big city traffic. Lucky for you, Tahiti Village is a minuscule three miles away from the NFL Las Vegas Raider Stadium. That’s barely enough time to blare The Autumn Wind out the car windows for the whole city to hear.

*What to Eat & Drink

Generally, people enjoy a little bit of tailgating before the game but in Vegas, standing under the desert sun on a blacktop parking lot sounds like something you’d rather do later in the NFL season. That being said, Tahiti Village doesn’t want you to miss out on all that delicious traditional tailgating food. At 17º S Beers & Bites you can find burgers, fries, wings, slow cooked ribs, nachos, and of course… ice cold beer.
Want to keep the football party going through the night? Just because the day is coming to a close doesn’t mean it’s time for bed. At the Wiki Wiki Store you can stock up on sodas, beer, and snacks to keep that football momentum going during your entire Las Vegas Tahiti Village vacation.

Friends drinking beer and watching football in Las Vegas.

*How to Recover

So, you watched a winning game, ate some amazing food, and threw back a few cold beers to make for an unforgettable gameday. However, did watching all those buff athletes have you feeling a little less than physically fit? Then head to Tahiti Village’s fully equipped fitness center and start pumping that iron. The fitness center includes treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and a wide variety of strength equipment so you can leave feeling as ripped as Derek Carr.

Or maybe watching all those hard-working football players had the opposite effect, and seeing all that physical activity actually wore you out. Well, there’s no better way to embrace lethargy than a relaxing Lazy River! Grab a complimentary Lazy River Tube and peacefully float around the 1/8th of a mile serenity decorated with beautiful waterfalls as Tahitian Tiki Torches light your path, where you can dream of the next time you spend a Raiders game day celebrating in Las Vegas.

As the Entertainment Capital of the World, it only makes sense that one of the most popular sports makes Las Vegas home. Our Valley has a lot to look forward to with the NFL digging their cleats into our desert sands, and Tahiti Village is happy to be your oasis for every kick-off.
